Reconstruction of the Libeň Bridge
The study presents a comprehensive urbanistic-architectural design of the Libeň Bridge and the adjacent surroundings.
At its meeting on Monday 18 December 2023, the Prague City Council approved an update of the Architectural Study designed by architect Petr Tej, which defines the fundamental parameters of the reconstruction of the Libeň Bridge and the surrounding area. The design envisages a more extensive reconstruction of the arch bridge over the Vltava River. This is based on Janák's original design in the form of a replica of the supporting structure on the existing piers in the Vltava River. A free-form replica will replace the arch structure of the Libeň bridge over the defunct eastern arm of the Vltava River. Under the bridge, a paved piazzetta is proposed in the plan footprint of the original Vltava River bed with various scenarios of use (skatepark, markets, concerts, ice rink). The spaces of the piazzetta are connected by staircases to the interior spaces in the bridge abutments. The entry and exit ramps in the central part of the bridge are left on the embankment and adapted for pedestrian, cycling and motor traffic.
