Bicycle Snake along the main road between Kačerov and Roztyly

Urbanism

The footbridge will fundamentally improve pedestrian and cycling accessibility through a barrier area that today can only be crossed by car or metro.

The link is part of the main cycling route, which runs parallel to the North-South Main Line and will thus allow the area of Kačerov and Pankrác (or the centre of Prague) in the north and the area of Spořilov and Roztyly (or the entire Jižní Město) in the south to be directly and safely connected to each other.

So far, only the multiply longer and inconvenient diversion routes can be used in this connection on foot or by bicycle, which bypass the barrier of the southern link (with the off-level crossing), the railway together with the metro and bus depot in a roundabout way, while by car and metro the connection is direct, comfortable and capable.

The construction of the footbridge will thus ensure more balanced conditions for the user public to freely choose their mode of transport for moving around the city - the area that has to be crossed between parts of the city where hundreds of thousands of people live and work will be able to be crossed not only by car or metro, but also in the gentlest possible way - on foot or by bicycle.

The northern connection of the footbridge is north of Michelská Street with the possibility of moving through the street network of the buildings on both sides of the main road and the transport hub at Kačerov metro station, while on the southern side the road and street network of the south-western edge of the Spořilov development is connected with the possibility of continuing to the area near Roztyly metro station using the current footbridge over the road for motor vehicles.

Architecture

The fine line of the flyover winding along the main road. Environmentally friendly materials such as wooden bridge beams and wooden transparent railings, elevated and rail corridors to protect citizens.  The footbridge will be provided with a pleasant sprayed surface for cyclists and pedestrians.

Construction

This is a composite wood-UHPC (ultra-high performance concrete) bridge deck construction.

The glued timber beams are bonded to a thin UHPC deck. The structure acts as a continuous beam on steel thin piers.
